The Roosevelt Band Program currently has two performing jazz bands.
Jazz I is the top performing jazz ensemble at RHS. This is an auditioned group consisting of a standard jazz ensemble. Auditions are held in May for the following school calendar year. Jazz I has performances throughout the community as well as in the kaliedoscope concert and the spring jazz concert. This group competes at the Mitchell Jazz Festival, the Northern State Jazz Fesitval in Aberdeen, the Augustana Jazz Festival, the Coyote Jazz Festival in Vermillion and the Optimist Jazz Festival in Brookings, SD.
Jazz II is open to anyone and focuses on the basics of understanding jazz concepts as well as improvisation. Performances happen at the spring concert and kaliedoscope concert. Jazz II will compete at the Mitchell Jazz Festival, the Augustana Jazz Festival, the Optimist Jazz Festival in Brookings.
Jazz and Pancakes
Each year the RHS jazz program puts on this fabulous fundraiser called Jazz and Pancakes. While you enjoy your breakfast, catered by Chris Cakes, come and listen to some great jazz music performed by the jazz students.
This year, this event will be on
February 3rd, 2024 from 8 am - 11 am.
Tickets will be $5 pre-sale and $3 for all performers. Find your favorite band member for more information regarding tickets!
